  Crab Feast Wrap Up

  from Sean Bailey, Alumni President

Gentlemen,

Thank you to all the brothers, friends, and family who came out to celebrate another year of Theta Chi.  By many accounts, this Crab Feast was the best in years – back at the house, crabs prepared to order, tons of bbq, games for the kids, great turnout.  A special thanks to Jason Tepper whose hard work, selflessness, and generosity ensured the day was enjoyable for everyone.  We would also like to thank those whose donations helped defer the cost of Crab Feast.  In all, the event costs $3,500 and donations surpassed $2,000.  To but that in perspective, last year’s Crab Feast at Bentley’s cost over $4,500 and donations totaled less than $900.

During the annual meeting, several pieces of business were discussed.  The first two established an anniversary date for our major events – Crab Feast and the Homecoming Golf Tournament.  As resolved, this Crab Feast was the 35th anniversary and this coming golf tournament (Oct 20) will be the 25th anniversary.  The third piece of business was to discuss the renovation plans.  The Alumni Corp presented its work to date including conceptual drawings, business plan, schedule and financial analysis.  The brothers voted in favor of continuing to develop the current plan.  Based on the current plan, the house will be closed starting June 2007 and remain unoccupied until July 2008.  Attached you will find a presentation that outlines the business plan, the financial analysis, and the conceptual drawings.  Please take a few minutes to review these documents online ( here ).

In the coming months, fellow brothers will be reaching out to you to discuss your interest in investing in the rebuilding of the chapter house.  The plan is to create an organization of investors whose primary responsibility is to manage the property and service the debt.  It is similar to offering stock in a small business.  For those on board with investing, we will be looking for seed money to further develop the required construction documents and legal documents to underpin the renovation project.  Please keep an open mind and appreciate the importance of this request.
